Renal Dysfunction in Adults with Congenital Heart Disease Progress in Pediatric Cardiology doi: 10.1016/j.ppedcard.2015.11.003

Renal dysfunction is commonly seen in adults with congenital heart disease and increases mortality. Risk factors for renal dysfunction include cyanosis, injury at the time of cardiopulmonary bypass, prior acute kidney injury, and systemic ventricular function. Hypertension, nephrotoxic medications, and diabetes mellitus may also contribute. Novel biomarkers may improve detection of renal dysfunction in an effort to reduce risk.
