Soft-tissue sarcomas represent a heterogeneous group of rare mesenchymal malignancies. There are two central issues with regards to the management of soft-tissue sarcomas: (1) local control and (2) metastatic spread. A number of important studies have been published in the past year that provide information to guide the complex decision-making involved in the care of patients with sarcoma. This review will serve to highlight some of the most relevant recent literature on extremity soft-tissue sarcoma with a focus on local recurrence and its effect on outcome.
