Description
A TROPONIN complex subunit that binds calcium and help regulate calcium-dependent muscle contraction. There are two troponin C subtypes: troponin C1 and C2. Troponin C1 is skeletal and cardiac type whereas troponin C2 is skeletal type. Troponin C1 is a BIOMARKER for damaged or injured CARDIAC MYOCYTES and mutations in troponin C1 gene are associated with FAMILIAL HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY.Search for this term in our Faculty Database
